The annual Met Gala event took place this Monday, 2nd May in New York. This year's theme was 'gilded glamour and white tie'. The Met Gala asked its attendees to 'embody the grandeur—and perhaps the dichotomy—of Gilded Age New York'. This period, roughly from 1870 to 1900, was defined as an era of rapid economic growth, industrialisation and huge cultural change. For the upper echelon, fashion in this time was all about extravagance and excess. Think pearls, beading, ruffles and lace.
Here are some of the jewellery trends we are loving from the red carpet...
Collar necklaces were seen on many celebrities at this year's Met Gala. It is the perfect way to add a touch of glamour to a more simplistic outfit.
Deep jewel tones like this emerald green gown were very popular during the Gilded Age, accessorised with a vibrant green gem-set pendant.
Chains, chains and more chains! Gold chains have enjoyed a comeback in the last couple of years, and they don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Men's jewellery is having a moment. Accessorise your outfit with layered necklaces and simple bracelets.
During the Gilded Era in New York, pearls were more readily available than diamonds, and therefore were worn as a daytime accessory. In this look, they are combined with blue gemstones and also used to accessorise the dress.
Brooches have made a comeback in the last year. They have been particularly popular with male celebrities on the red carpet.
